History of WarDuring the conflict, 5,000 US troops arrived on Bora Bora Bora shortly after Pearl Harbor to frustrate Japan's advancement in the Pacific. "Twenty-five years ago I was reading a tale that the seventh AF had a group of P-40's in Bora Bora, along with some army troops, to keep the Japs well out one time.
40s flew a path and received a bugey airborne surveillance vessel and he put the course to verify it. 40's turned out to be an Emily Air Force aircraft that came to Bora Bora's recce, and the P-40 fired it, you know something about that history, it's the only thing in the whole Pacific War where an Army Air Force hunter fired down a Japonese jet.
The Vairupe Village is situated on the west side of the Bora Bora isle. There are several war shelters and two never 7" coastal rifles on the northern bank, near Faanui.
