Blue Lagoon French Polynesia
French Polynesia Blue LagoonFound paradise: Exploration of the Blue Lagoon in Rangiroa (Tuamotus)
We needed two full day to get to Rangiroa and it was rewarding: This chain of corals is one of the lowest targets of French Polynesia and a part of the Tuamotus (about 355 km north east of Tahiti). The lagoon has a bright jade-green colour and the place's beauties are simply unimaginable.
We were already in Rangiroa and it was already getting there. I' d been up for two long nights (from Brussels to Paris, to Los Angeles, Papeete and on to Rangiroa), and when I went to sleep, I felt like I was in a severe depression instead of just sleep.
It was fast and anxious and not prepared for the trip: snorkelling for a whole night and discovering the Blue Lagoon. We had conversations about shark swims, but I was so drowsy that even the thought of seeing Jaws could not arouse ( or frighten) me. It was one of the best times I have ever had on my journeys.
I was not ready for its beauties when we arrived at the Blue Lagoon by barge. Blue Lagoon is actually a lagoon within a lagoon, full of eight small sand moths (small islands), sandy with colourful corals, coco palms and a lot of marine activity. There were the most striking blues in the waters.
On this journey we didn't do much: snorkel, go from one motorcycle to the other, meet a few local people, who roam around here and just enjoy the landscape. I' ve been going for a swim with a shark and I still have all my arms and my feet. That' s right, they were little blacktip shark, nothing like Jaws, those shark weren't even interested in having me for noon.
When I swam with these wonderful animals, the boat crews said that most of these shark species were not atrocious. But I never could have pictured listening to his tunes on a moto in the Blue Lagoon. Tahiti Air operates flights to Rangiroa from Bora Bora, Tahiti and other French Polynesia isles.
There is an airfield on the Avaturo. There is no need for a vehicle to discover Rangiroa, just a bicycle (and someone with a boat).
