Maui is my favourite vacation place. Living in Lahaina in a place with a cooking area helps on both sides. The Lahaina is the "tourist trap" with all the small stores, pubs, clubs as well as resaurant. It' not going to be a place with all the convenience and comforts, but this is the itinerary I took the first times I left and had a great one.

If you are a little more sophisticated you can go to the Kaanapali beaches area and you will find the resort places all in different budget classes. I' ve slept at the Royal Lahaina, it was cheap and beautiful. A number of resort locations are available on this sandy area. They have beautiful swimming pool with beautiful bar, room facilities, hotel management, pool area, pool area, pool area.

Most, however, have no kitchenette, so you can dine all the while and if you want, you can hire a cheap rental vehicle or a cab or just about all of them have busses that go routine to Whaler Malls where you can take a local coach to Lahaina.

At first, the place next to the Royal Lahaina, The Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas, doesn't look very welcoming, but that's my destination now. They have good value for money and I like the Castaways Hotel. I keep saying that I will try Wailua, but I keep coming back there.
