Nelson Bc FerriesTimetable for Kootenay Lake British Columbia
Kootenay Lake is the longest free cruise in the whole wide open sea and is rewarding for the views alone, especially if it's the only way to get to Kootenay Lake by boot. The Kootenay Lake Holiday system operates two ferries during the summers, which results in shorter waiting time.
Fifteen minutes before the next regular Kootenay Lake Fert. Keep your cameras handy, this is a great way to take pictures! To order your Kootenay Lake Boat Trip Card, click here. Two ships exist, the Osprey 2000, a large-capacity shuttle that has been constructed in Nelson, yes, you guess 2000, and the smaller MV Balfour, which is out of operation during the peak period and when the Osprey 2000 is out of use.
You will be transported between Kootenay Bay and Balfour and need about 35 min. for the passage, but if you include the entry and exit times, you can include another 10-15min. Osprey 2000 has a Snackbar where you can get a quick lunch, a cup of tea and warm meals.
On the MV Balfour there is no catering. Note that if you are arriving just before the departure of the boat, you will not be able to board in busy times, and you will have to await a sail or more at times of the year.
If there is a lot of activity, the ferries disregard the timetable and load, discharge and leave as quickly as possible to keep your waiting time as low as possible. Don't be alarmed if you have to sit around for a while, as both Kootenay Bay and Balfour are wonderful places with sandbeach, dining and resting places.
Use the chance to stretching your feet, eating a snack and mixing with the local people and other travellers. Lake Kootenay is the border between the mountain and Pacific timezones. Whilst the transition from one area to another usually means you have to switch your clock when summer has come into effect, you don't need to, as the eastern shores of Kootenay Lake to Creston never changes timing - it is Mountain Standardtime the year round.
The Mountain Standard Time is the same as Pacific Daylight Time.
