While some say that the legendary stranded Atlantis is on Bimini, others say it is the big wild fishermen's capitol of the planet, with captures like marmelin, griffonfish and wahoo. In the 1930s Ernest Hemingway came here to catch flowers, to catch flowers and to spell islands in the brook. The natives will tell you that he found the inspirations for his "I have a dream" talk here and photos of him decorate the wall of pubs and cafes around the isle.

About three and a half mile long and only one and a half nautical mile broad, Harbour Island lies directly at the tip of Eleuthera, divided from it by a small canal. Harbour Island's sandy white sandy beach is renowned worldwide (Elle McPherson and India Hicks own both plots here), but its capital Dunmore is also important.

As one of the oldest settlement of the Bahamas and former capitol of the islands, the city was once the summers residence of the royal governor Earl of Dunmore. Three hundred years ago on Eleuthera, Britons seeking religion set tlers gave the name to the village, which means liberty in Greek.

Eleuthera also has kilometres of lonely beach and ripples with adorable pinapple ranches that dot the area. Exumas are a 120-mile long string of islands within a Out Islands string, with the Exuma Cays spread in a long line northbound to New Providence from Great Exuma. Unspoilt by reef and insular surroundings, the Bahamas have created a 176 square kilometer section of Exuma Cay's Land and Sea Park, one of the world's most prosperous sea parklands.

Here you will find the relaxed Georgetown and a large choice of relaxed Bahamanian cuisine. Cruising a little from Great Exuma is a wall that shields the major isle from the Atlantic. Stocking-Iceland offers stunning vistas from its high escarpment and a range of picturesque sandy areas divided by calcareous rocks.

Atlantis Paradise Island stores are pricey, but the servings are usually large, so you' re saving your bucks by not overordering. Jitney busses on Nassau and Grand Bahama Island require small coins - precise fares only in US Dollar or Bahamas. At the leeward side of Stocking Island, the Chat'N' Chill is a classical seaside restaurant with great dining that attracts every boat driver in the area.

Luciano's is one of the top Nassau dining establishments with a view of Paradise Island and wonderful seafront seats. Though the Bahamas are known for their rose sands and the clear waters, they do not only provide aquatic activity. Junkanoo is the Bahamas' most important event of the year, with great festivities between Christmas and New Year's Eve on the islands.
