At what season do Antarctic travelers come? Antarctic Peninsula is best visited between mid-November and early March. The East Antarctic is less accessible: tours take place at the end of December. What is the best way to get to Antarctica? Antarctica is reached most of the way by boat. The majority (with the exception of the biggest cruise liners with 500 or more passengers) provide the opportunity to go onshore.
Most of the vessels travel to the Antarctic Peninsula, which crosses the Drake Passage from South America for one and a half to two outings. Travelling to East Antarctica is rarer and usually spends 10 nights on the way to the mainland, which includes visiting sub-Antarctic isles after leaving from Hobart (Australia) or New Zealand's South Island.

It is a stop-over on trips starting from Hobart or the South Island of New Zealand in the direction of East Antarctica. They are often for the Ross Sea and sometimes even involve a visit to Commonwealth Bay and other places of interest in Australian Antarctic territory. The Macquarie Island is a one or two days stop-over as part of a trip of three week or more.
The sub-Antarctic sub-Antarctic archipelago (e.g. Campbell Iceland, Auckland Islands) and Macquarie lsland are independent locations for short (e.g. two-week) sub-Antarctic trips. They start from Hobart or the South Isle of New Zealand and usually concentrate on birdwatching. The Macquarie is part of the state of Tasmania and is subject to a request for permission to do so.
