American Samoa Communitys College hosted its 1968th opening ceremonies on Friday, May 18 and thus for the first time hosted an ASCC closing celebration in the new Multi-Purpose Center (MPC) auditorium. Among the high-ranking visitors were members of the University Council, the Cabinet and the Municipality, and Father Iasepi Ulu of Fagatogo CCCAS was the President of the Fagatogo ceremonies, the College has a long history of high-ranking invited speaker, and on this historic event the High Chief and Governor Lemanu Peleti Palepoi Sialega Mauga gave the key note address for the first closing ceremonies, which took place in the MPC Auditorium.
Lemanu was twice on the same card with Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga, first in November 2012 and again in November 2016. Before his election as Lieutenant Governor, Lemanu was a senator for Sua County #2 in the US Samoa Legislature or Fono.
Mr. H. H. has served in many other senior executive roles in both the Government of Samoa and the United States Armed Forces. Peleti Mauga, a native of Nu'uuli town, was later awarded the prestigious Lemanu award by his Sa'ilele relatives in Swa County, Samoa, USA. They have three children - Peleti Jr., Palepoi and Punalehua.
Governor Lemanu is also an Ordained Deacon at CCCAS (Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa) in the town of Sa'ilele. Mr. Lemanu has a Master of Public Administration from San Diego State University, a Bachelor of Art in Political Science from the University of Hawaii-Manoa and an Associate of Art from American Samoa Community College.
After graduating from Waianae High School in Hawaii, he attended Samoana High School and Matafao Primary School in Faga'alu. Lemanu first entered the U.S. Army in 1978 as a pensioned officer (Major: O-4) and was listed in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years. It was reinstated by the U.S. Army and was serving with the U.S. Armed Services for another 17 years.
Throughout his 23 -year period of armed forces he occupied many leading roles and was serving his nation in two different battles - first in the Persian Gulf War (dessert shield and storm) as infantry platoon leader and then in the war on terror (Operation Iraqi Freedom), when he was called back from retiring to active duty as head of operations.
After leaving the armed forces, Lemanu held a number of senior management roles in the government of Samoa, such as Director of Army Instructions (DAI) in the US Samoa Department of Education-JROTC Program, Head of the Office of Property Management, and Liaison Officer of the Governor's Office. On the Senate, Lemanu was Chairman of the Committee on Budget & Appropriations, Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, Immigration, and Legal Affairs, Senatorial Counsel to the Association of Pacific Islands Legislature (APIL), and Senatorial Counsel to the Board of Directors of the Development Bank of ASA. He was vice-chair.
"They all know the present state of the state of the earth and our territory," Lemanu went on. "Lemanu said to the graduates, "Education is the only gun that can transform the way of the new age. "If you want to make a difference in the way we live, you have to do your best, even in the darkness.
" Mr Lemanu agreed that formation will give this and those yet to come the know-how and capabilities to guide the territory through tomorrow's challenge. "He said, "What begins here will actually make American Samoa better.
