Aitutaki' s coastline is mainly bituminous, but in some places along the southern and eastern coasts the highway is still sand. Aitutaki has little transport and few automobiles or lorries - most of us get around on mopeds. Aitutani Town is the major center of Aitutaki with a small square, craft stores, two diners, mail, gas stations and a grocery store.
Aitutaki' s western coastline from Arutanga Town to Amuri Village, the most populous part of Aitutaki. A little more than 2000 persons are living on the isle. Situated on the coastline next to the north point of the runway, this scenic section of sand stretches several kilometres to the southward side, making for an ideal walk along the water.
Promenade at the Are Tamanu Hotel on the northwest shore of Aitutaki, where most of the island's accommodations are in. You can swim in the laguna and snorkeling is great one kilometer further due to the end of the aerodrom. Pacific Aitutaki, the biggest seaside resorts on Aitutaki with only 30 privately owned chalets and mansions, has a beautiful promenade.
Aitutaki' s eastern shore is deep and has a flat line of tides. You can fish in several coastal towns along the water. During low water, the dry sandy beaches on the eastern shore are a favourite place for local people to test the speeds of their motorcycles.
There' s only one small seaside village on this cliffy, beachless coast, the Aitutaki Lodges there is little road transport on Aitutaki's asphalted streets and the home is hiding behind colorful herbs. Aitutaki' s north tip sandy beaches, protected from the winds, are rarely frequented by visitors. Streets weave through the center of Aitutaki, where there are several small towns, high schools, hospitals and genealogical farm.
Aitutaki' s highest point is the peak of Maunapu, which is only 124m high. From here you have a magnificent view of the area. Known as the gateway to the islands, Ootu Point provides breathtaking vistas over the Laguna and Cove overlooking the major islands of Aitutaki.
Ranginui is a mixture of rough and smooth sands. There is a good view of Akitua as well as the sea and the area. From here we start daily excursions to the islands. The Aitutaki village is a favourite seaside location and a pub with magnificent sea-view.
Akitua Island's beautiful sandy area has been upgraded to Aitutaki lagoon residence - the low pass in front of the residence has been excavated to be able to swim all tides and the islands is linked to Aitutaki by a viaduct. This is a spectacle of the flat laguna and sandbanks around One Foot Isle.
You can walk on the sandbank off One Foot lsland at low water. Like a foot from the sky, One Foot Iceland allegedly got its name after a blind passenger concealed the traces of his footsteps in the sands while being chased by local people. One Foot Island's beautiful beaches make it the most visited excursion spot on the major Aitutaki.
Tekopua is the second biggest of the Aitutaki lagoons, a long, inhabited and beautiful beach front islet. You can explore the isle on a personal tour.
