ÜBER - Samoa Qualification Authority
Samoa Qualifications Authority (SQA) is embodying the need for a nationwide institution for coordination and QA of Post School Education and Training in Samoa. The work of a cabinet committee in the mid-1990s and a 2003 audit by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) strongly advocated the creation of a nationwide training agency.
The cabinet authorized the foundation of SQA in June 2004. As a result, SQA was introduced in November 2004 with a graduated procedure. However, SQA was formally founded in 2006 under the Samoa Qualifications Act 2006. The SQA Act 2010 abolished this in order to reinforce its regulating function.
Its PSET strategy plan 2016-2020 describes the key policy priority areas for the PSET sub-sector as follows: design, co-ordination, monitoring, QA and execution of operations. Rationalisation of these operations is reflected in the SQA 2017-2020 Business Plan and annualised in the AMP.
The aim is to guarantee that they are implemented effectively and efficiently in order to achieve the aims and targets in line with the tasks of the Authority. In the course of further developing and implementing the functionalities specified by SQA, the number of employees has also risen in order to enhance the effectivity and efficiencies in the provision of services.
